MFMHL PLAYERS MAKE SOLID CONTRIBUTION TO TEAM MANITOBA

Team Manitoba finished the 2013 Hockey Canada U18 National Championship in Calgary Alberta with a 2-2 record good for 5th place. Manitoba had one of the youngest squads at the event and were extremely competitive and somewaht unlucky not to move onto the Semi-finals. The Team travelled to Calgary on Monday Nov. 4 and once there settled in and had an exhibition game that evening vs. Team Quebec which ended 1-1, Stephanie Grossi scored the lone marker for Team Manitoba.

They then practice a couple of times on Tuesday, had individual and team pictures done and team meetings to prep for the start of the tournament.

Game 1 - Manitoba (2) vs. Alberta (3) - The first game saw Team Manitoba come up just short losing a tough 3-2 decision to the host team. The 2 teams battled to a 1-1 draw at the first intermission before Alberta scored 2 to Manitoba's 1 in the second period. Manitoba actually carried a lot of the play through the 2nd and 3rd periods but could not score the equalizer.

Game 3 - Manitoba (2) vs. Ontario Red (3) - Manitoba now played powerhouse Ontario Red and scored the only 2 goals the Red Team would allow in Round Robin play but would come up on the wrong side of a 3-2 result. The young Manitoba Squad took it to the 7 time National Champs in the first period and took a 2-0 lead into the intermission. However a 3 minute span to start the 2nd period would be all Ontarion Red would need as they netted 3 goals to take the lead. The 3rd game was an obvious high stick the officials missed. From this point Manitoba and Ontario battled evenly with both teams having some chanes to score. Manitoba pulled the goal in the last minute and had 2-3 quality chances but could not convert.
